Eight fast food shops in Leidsestraat are not allowed to be open for takeout after midnight by order of Mayor Halsema from tonight. Many catering visitors lingered around those fast food outlets during evenings out, according to the municipality.

Due to the national closing time, catering establishments may be open until midnight, while fast food establishments were allowed to remain open for takeout until 4 a.m. According to the municipality, Leidsestraat is full of the public after the clubs and cafes close on weekends.
“In recent weeks, the number of reports of fights, quarrels and nuisance has increased. Dangerous situations with the tram have also arisen. Placing extra lighting in the area has not had the desired effect,” according to the municipality. Mayor Femke Halsema is therefore now going to limit opening hours via the municipal APV.
