The OMT advises the cabinet to take “lockdown-like measures” to combat the rising corona figures. Due to the seriousness of the corona situation, this cannot be avoided, sources around the Outbreak Management Team report to the NOS. According to the sources, the OMT recommends a lockdown of about two weeks.
During that period, events should be canceled and cinemas and theaters should be closed. Reportedly, the advice also states to adjust the closing times for the catering industry and the group size. According to the OMT, schools can remain open.
‘No more QR code for negative tests’
After the short lockdown, people would no longer be able to receive a QR code if they have been tested. At the moment it is still the case that visitors can, for example, enter a cafe if they have been vaccinated twice, if they have had corona or if they have tested negative. According to sources, the OMT advises to delete the latter option after the lockdown. Such a ‘2G rule’ is in other countries already entered.
If the cabinet does not follow the advice about a short lockdown, other long-term measures will be needed, according to the OMT. Then, for example, the mandatory one and a half meters should return.
Cats house deliberation
It is not yet clear whether these measures will actually be taken. This morning at the Catshuis there is again a meeting between the most involved ministers and the permanent advisers. In addition to the Catshuis deliberation, there are all kinds of other discussions, for example tonight between the cabinet and the mayors.
Corona measures are politically sensitive and there is a lot of discussion about the introduction of the 2G rule: part of the House is afraid that it will sharpen the contradictions in society, because more distinction is made between people who have been vaccinated and those who have not. .
Tomorrow evening there will be another press conference of outgoing Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge.
