Ruben Ligeon returned this summer at NAC Breda, who already rented him in 2015 from Ajax. The right back not only keeps good memories of that period due to the difficult communication with the Amsterdam club.
Ligeon already made his debut in Ajax’s first team in 2011, but was unable to conquer a starting spot. “I played in Young Ajax and sat on the bench at Ajax 1. At a certain point I was a bit done with that,” he tells Ajax Showtime. “In the end I was rented out to NAC Breda and that went well in itself.”
After six months in the Rat Verlegh Stadium, Ligeon was told by Ajax that he had to leave. “In principle, that is painful to hear, because I wanted to break through at Ajax, that was my dream. When I was about to leave, I received a call: you are not allowed to leave, we are going to break open your contract and you go to Willem II on a rental basis.”
“I was surprised and thought: why now suddenly extend?”, continues the wing defender. “You already told me that there was no place and that I could leave. I had already put my thoughts on the fact that I was away from Ajax, and then they came back. It was very strange for a while.”
However, Ligeon no longer played for the team from Amsterdam. After six months with Willem II, he went to FC Utrecht, which had already tried to get him.
