Tennis player Barbora Krejčíková entered her premier Champions Tournament with a defeat. Today’s winner Roland Garros lost to Estonian Anett Kontaveit in the opening match of the tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico 3: 6 and 4: 6.
Karolína Plíšková, who will face the Spanish Garbiňa Muguruza, is in the same group called Teotihuacán. The match will start on Thursday at 2:30 CET.
From the beginning, the world number three and the second-placed Krejčíková “fought” with unusual alpine conditions, to which they got used only a few days. In the match, she made an unusually high number of unforced errors (34) and often sent the balls far into the car.
In the first set, she lost the serve after a double mistake in the fourth game. She started the second set after a double mistake and a twice-hit net with lost service and did not get a chance to turn around. The Estonian, among other things this year’s winner from Ostrava, did not allow the Czech tennis player any breakball within 75 minutes.
Not many fans found their way to the auditorium for the opening duel of the competition. Guadalajara has replaced Shenzhen, China at the last minute, and the Champions Tournament is taking place after a one-year break. It is played at an altitude of over 1500 meters and for the first time in 11 years in the open air.
