New software will make it possible to repair Iphone 13 screens at third-party repairers – without the face recognition being permanently turned off.
Last week, Ny Teknik reported and a host of other technology sites that Apple fimps the face id feature for good on the iPhone 13 if you change the screen of an unauthorized repair company.
Complicates screen changes
The reason must, according to the site Ifixit, be in a layout where the new screen panel must be paired with the Iphone 13 phone. This is done using a microcontroller that is soldered to the screen.
Third-party repairers have been able to get around the setup – but it requires that the above-mentioned microcontrollers are first removed and then soldered to the new screen.
Releases the requirement for repairers
After a storm of criticism that followed, Apple is now making a U-turn. The iPhone maker tells The Verge that one will drop the requirement that the new screen must be able to be paired with the phone.
But this requires a software update – and Apple is currently unable to specify when the new software will be rolled out.
