During the session of the UN Security Council, whose presidency is our country, Russia expressed its disagreement with Mexico for its approach to reduce exclusion and inequality worldwide.
At the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador explained the position of his government in the High Level Open Debate “Maintenance of international peace and security: exclusion, inequality and conflict”.
He said that neoliberalism has not produced results for what he proposed the World Plan for Fraternity and Welfare with which a trillion dollars would be raised with contributions from businessmen, the richest men on the planet and the G-20 to guarantee the right to a a decent life to 750 million people living in poverty.
In his speech, Vassily Nebenzia, Russia’s representative to the UN, said that inequality in the world worsened with the coronavirus pandemic, in addition to solving the situation requires more than a “mere patch.”
He referred to the issues of exclusion, inequality and conflict.
And so the Representative of Russia responded to the message delivered by AMLO at the UN Security Council.

“Neither the Peacebuilding Commission nor the Security Council have the tools to facilitate the formation of sustainable and independent economic models, nor to guarantee the exchange of technology transfer, nor the strengthening of infrastructure, nor to develop the industrial or agricultural sector, or to create jobs, “he said.
We must not lose sight of the fact that development alone cannot guarantee peace and that peace does not necessarily guarantee development. It is therefore important to keep the linkages in mind, but also to bear in mind the distinctions between these two processes and which United Nations agency is charged with this or that area of work.

The Russian representative said that issues such as the protection of human rights or actions against climate change should be addressed on specialized platforms.

“We regret the proposal to adopt decisions in the General Assembly, the day after tomorrow, without holding consultations on the case, which is contrary to the very objective of consensus and seems hasty to us. An attempt is made to impose the will of a group of countries and generate more division or seem to be the intention. It seems fundamental to us that international assistance is provided exclusively in coordination with the countries and at their request, taking into account the contexts and priorities of the countries and this implies legal, cultural, social and political issues, ”he said.
He stated that in the face of a conflict there are no unique answers, so they are against “introducing universal indicators of conflict or crisis that could open the door to numerous abuses.”
