Instagram what is now known as Meta’s social media app is reportedly testing a subscription feature apparently inspired by OnlyFans. This allows content creators to earn extra money from paid content offered to fans to unlock Stories and Live exclusively.
Reporting from Gizmochina (10/11), a new category called Instagram Subscriptions appears under the In-App Purchases section of the App Store. Subscriptions to this service cost around $0.99 and $4.99 in the US. The same appears on the Indian App Store, with a subscription fee of 89 Rupees per month. If converted to Rupiah, this is around Rp. 14-71 thousand.
This subscription option is also seen alongside Instagram Badges which users can purchase to give to their favorite creators. At first glance, this is similar to how Twitter Blue works, where users can gain access to exclusive tweets and other content.
This is nothing new, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced this feature earlier this year and the company was currently exploring it. In line with that, a reverse engineer also recently uploaded an update related to its development.

By subscribing, users will have access to specific content, such as on Stories or Live. When a user sends a direct message or comments on a followed creator’s post, a special member badge will appear next to the username. This badge makes customer interactions with creators a priority.
While on the part of content creators, there will be an option to view estimated earnings, active members, and expired memberships. Instagram also allows them to customize their name and subscription plan.
