Since the Dutch vaccination campaign started at the beginning of this year, a total of 36 new possible side effects have emerged from the four corona vaccines that have been used. A spokeswoman for the Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) confirms this after earlier reporting by RTL Nieuws.
When the first vaccines were admitted to the Dutch market this year, 31 side effects were known. According to the MEB, the fact that 36 have been added to the package leaflets since then is mainly due to the large scale on which vaccination is currently taking place worldwide. More than 24 million injections have been taken in the Netherlands so far.
Of the possible side effects added later, eight are classified as serious. These include inflammation of the heart after vaccination (myocarditis and pericarditis). These rare conditions are mentioned in the vaccine inserts from Moderna and Pfizer.
For Janssen and AstraZeneca, this includes immune thrombocytopenia, a rare condition in which the body breaks down platelets. Less serious side effects such as vomiting (Pfizer, very common), dizziness (Moderna, rare), and diarrhea were later added as possible side effects.
