Internet usage continues to rise – New-Facts.eu: news, news

Frankfurt / Main (dts news agency) – Internet usage in Germany continues to rise. The daily reach rose by four percentage points to 76 percent in 2021, according to the new ARD / ZDF online study, which was published on Tuesday. For 14 to 29 year olds the daily range is now 99 percent, for 30 to 49 year olds 92 percent, for 50 to 69 year olds 67 and for over 70 year olds still 42 percent .

As in the previous year, 100 percent of all under-50-year-olds are least occasionally online. There was a slight increase in the older age groups: 95 percent of people between the ages of 50 and 69 and 77 percent of those over 70 use the Internet at least occasionally. Around a third of all study respondents said that online video offers, online articles and messengers have become more important during the corona crisis. But social media, music via the internet, linear television and linear radio have also gained in importance. In 2021, after the Corona dent last year, on-the-go usage also increased significantly again. Now 79 percent of people use the Internet on the go at least occasionally – more than ever before. In general, videos are also reaching more and more people on the Internet. The daily range increases to 36 percent (plus 6 percentage points). The middle age group in particular is driving this development forward: among 14 to 29 year olds, 70 percent (plus 3 percentage points) watch videos on the Internet on a normal day; among 30 to 49 year olds it is 50 percent (plus 13 percent) Percentage points). The use of audio over the Internet has increased slightly to 30 percent. When it comes to video streaming services, Netflix remains the most popular, with 32 percent of people using it at least once a week. Amazon Prime Video and Disney + come in second and third with 18 and 8 percent respectively. The ARD and ZDF media libraries are used by 21 percent of people at least once a week, according to the study. Facebook is also the most widely used social media application in 2021 in the currency “at least weekly use”, with a plus of two points, reaching 28 percent. Instagram is currently growing faster and has a daily or weekly usage of 26 percent (+6 percentage points). In terms of daily use, Instagram clearly overtook Facebook in 2021 and reached 18 percent, Facebook as number 2 only got 15 percent. Two years ago, Facebook was still way ahead, with 21 percent daily use compared to 13 percent on Instagram. For under-30s, in addition to Instagram with 55 percent daily use, Snapchat and Tiktok with 28 and 19 percent respectively play an important role. In the young target group, Facebook only comes fourth in the reach ranking (17 percent daily use). No daily or weekly use could be determined for Clubhouse, which has since been treated as a new hype in certain circles – only 2 percent of those surveyed use the new platform monthly or less. 71 percent use messenger services every day, 93 percent of the younger generation. WhatsApp is by far the most widely used messenger service – 70 percent of Germans aged 14 and over use it every day. Telegram, Signal and Threema follow a long way behind, with a maximum of 3 percent daily use.
