The Oregon Giant’s agreement with PSG, in which Lionel Messi became a member of the military, reports to the Parisian club an income of around 80 million euros per season, according to a study carried out by Calcio e Finanza. However, it is far from the most lucrative agreement of a sportswear brand that a football club has ever signed since, before the pandemic, Nike paid a little more than one hundred million euros to Barcelona annually to appear on its shirt.
Behind Nike is the German Adidas, which is the technical sponsor of eight clubs in the competition. Among them are Juventus, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Greater agreement
In 2014, the German giant signed a ten-year sponsorship deal with the Red Devils worth € 880 million, representing an annual payment of € 88 million, double what Nike paid the Manchester team before. to break up their relationship. This is the largest agreement of the German firm with a football club, since Real Madrid receives just over fifty million euros from Adidas to wear on its shirt.
In third place is Puma, which is the technical sponsor of five clubs. Among them are Borussia de Dortmund, Milan or Manchester City. Compared to the previous season, the company lost a team, as clubs such as Ludogorets or Olympique de Marseille are not participating in the competition this year. In 2019, after breaking with Nike, the City Football Group signed a ten-year contract with the German multinational, worth 763 million euros. In this sense, Puma pays 76.3 million euros per season to the conglomerate that controls Manchester City to equip the clubs that are part of the City Football Group portfolio.
In fourth place is the American company New Balance, which includes among the teams that it saw Dynamo from Kiev, Lille and Porto. In the penultimate step, the Spanish brand Joma, which equips Villarreal and Atalanta, is positioned. The Italian Macron closes the ranking, whose only representative is the Belgian Bruges.
Compared to the last edition of the Champions League, there was no variation in the number of brands present in the group stage of the European competition. Other sports equipment firms such as Umbro, Kappa or Le Coq Sportif await their turn to make their appearance in the top continental club competition.
