The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Mélanie Joly, spoke today with the President of the African Union Commission (AUC), His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat.
During their telephone exchange, Minister Joly expressed Canada’s deep concerns over the rapidly deteriorating situation in Ethiopia, noting violations of human rights and humanitarian law.
The Minister also reiterated that it is essential to work for a political solution and an inclusive national dialogue in order to bring the conflict to a peaceful resolution.
Minister Joly and President Faki agreed to strengthen collaboration between Canada and the AU Commission on important common interests, including peace and security, climate change, health and economic cooperation.
