The government, through the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Territorial Development, has extended health insurance to municipal councilors.
Local elected officials can now be supported by the State in specific health structures, against a financial contribution adapted to their capacity.
This social cover mainly offers two insurance policies to all the local elected representatives of the 117 municipalities: health insurance and individual accident insurance.
In fact, the first is intended for 750 municipal councilors who do not yet have health insurance, while the second guarantees the reimbursement of medical expenses in the event of bodily injury suffered during an accident, and, in the worst case scenario. , the payment to the insured of a capital in the event of disability, or to his beneficiaries in the event of death.
Individual accident insurance covers all 1,527 municipal councilors who are insured, for a capital of 5 million in the event of death and disability following an accident, and 500,000 CFA francs for medical expenses.
For the executive, this is a major new support intended to facilitate the decentralization process, in line with the actions carried out over the past two years.
As a reminder, since October 12, the right to health insurance is now guaranteed to everyone in Togo.
