Four masked men hijacked and set fire to a bus in a suburb of the Northern Irish capital, Belfast. The bus driver and a small number of passengers were able to get out safely.
“Four men entered the bus and ordered passengers to get out before setting fire to the bus,” the police said in a statement.
Bus company Translink has condemned the incident in a statement: “Our driver has been shocked and is currently being taken care of by colleagues. We are very disappointed by this intimidating attack on our employee and public transport service in the area. We strongly condemn this behavior and will work closely with the police to investigate this incident.”
Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon criticized the perpetrators on Twitter. “The buses are paid for and belong to the people of Northern Ireland. Without the buses, people cannot get to and from work, school or hospital appointments.”
