Calls Acts of Terrorism, US Condemns Assassination Attempt Against Iraqi PM

WASHINGTON – United States of America (US) condemns attack on Prime Minister (PM) Iraq Mustafa al-Kadhimi and labeled it an actual act of terrorism. This was revealed by a spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price.

“Action terrorism this real one, which we strongly condemn, is directed at the very heart of the Iraqi nation,” Price said in a statement.

“We are in close contact with Iraqi security forces tasked with upholding Iraqi sovereignty and independence and have offered our assistance as they investigate this attack,” he added. Al Arabiya, Sunday (7/11/2021).

The Iraqi military said Kadhimi’s residence in Baghdad’s Green Zone was targeted by an explosives-laden drone in a failed assassination attempt. Kadhimi herself was unharmed in the attack.

On his Twitter account, Kadhimi said he was fine and called on the public to exercise restraint.

“I am fine, thank God, among my people, and I call for calm and restraint from everyone, for the sake of Iraq,” Kadhimi said.

The Iraqi military said it would take necessary action in connection with the failed assassination attempt.
