Man first thought to have evolved in Africa. There are ancient human fossils showing that we lived between 6 and 2 million years ago that have been found on this continent.
Researchers think that hominids, or human-like creatures, diverged from other primates during this time in eastern and southern Africa.

Many scientists now believe there was somewhere between 15 and 20 species of early humans living on this planet.
However, not long after walking on land, early humans left Africa.
Experts don’t really know exactly why humans started moving out of their original homes, but it’s believed that things like drought pushed early humans out of Africa to survive.
The timeline is definite but also not clear. Homo sapiens (i.e. we, the first known modern humans) evolved on Earth between 300,000 and 200,000 years ago.
Homo sapiens is thought to have reached Australia by canoe between 65,000 and 35,000 years ago. It is hypothesized that humans then walked over the land bridge connecting Asia and North America around 13,000 years ago, and from there, migrated south.
