How much has it helped that both your parents are educators? Not Daddy anymore, but Mom still.
It helped a lot, because through their many years of experience in education, they were good advisers to me.
What did they help you with the most?
Of course, the way Mr. Pelán, the future school ombudsman, teaches in the first part. And then, for example, with their views on individual topics, because their experience is something that none of our author trio had.

I would like to hear something specific.
For example, in the case of a drowned child. It’s really something that happens sooner or later at every school and it’s such a nightmare for every teacher. When you go to school in nature, you are afraid of this.
Both of my parents, not that they experienced it alone, but were several times in their careers when it happened to one of their colleagues. The ability to empathize with the teacher he experiences when this happens to him is something they were able to pass on to me in part.
I liked it, I don’t know if it’s the penultimate part, the exceptionally talented child. It’s hardly talked about, because when such a child with a high IQ and exceptional talent shows up, almost no one knows what to do. Did Tomáš Feřtek, the co-author of the series, also come up with this topic?
Yes Yes. That’s the part that probably touched me the most.
Me too.
Because they also deal with the fact that their parents often do not know who they have at home and are not able – and I apologize to them – to realize this. That the child is different and they think it’s bad for him. They consider it a bad partner. And here it intersects with education too. Because then it’s transferred to school.

And then the smartest one still has to deal with it himself. The guy in your show coped with the chimney. Did that happen?
Yes. It’s not a transcript of a specific situation, but it is. These children often choose this solution because they feel that the world does not understand them.
We are all amateur parents. We fail, even though probably each of us tries our best. What about teacher failure? How critical can they be? How can he be tolerant if something goes wrong?
For me, teachers are the heroes of today, because the pressure on them is rising, the demands placed on them, even in terms of administration… The need for their profession to meet everyone – the demands of parents, children, school management and even the ministry – is so binding that their rights and responsibilities we wanted to show.
Why was Lukáš Vaculík chosen for the role of ombudsman? How long has it been worked on the series? Why did Matěj Podzimek decide to work on a series about Iveta Bartošová? What role can the boulevard play in topics such as education? And what would he like to say to his parents? Listen to the whole conversation.
