Deme, in consortium with Prysmian, has signed a contract worth more than $ 1.1 billion for the construction of the wind farm in the United States. Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Farm, announced Friday the Belgian group specializing in particular in solutions for the offshore energy industry. This park should provide energy to 660,000 homes. The contract, with a total value of more than $ 1.9 billion, was awarded by Dominion Energy Virginia to a consortium made up of Deme (via its subsidiary Deme Offshore US LLC) and Prysmian, an Italian company specializing in the production of power submarine cables.
According to Deme, this is the largest offshore wind turbine installation contract ever awarded in the United States. He “provides for the transport and installation of 176 monopile foundations with transition pieces, three offshore substations, scour protection, as well as the supply and installation of export submarine cable systems and interconnection “.
The park should be operational in 2026 and would then be the largest in the country.
The 2.6 GW offshore wind farm will be located approximately 43 kilometers off the coast of Virginia Beach. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than two million tonnes per year, according to Deme.
In early October, Deme had already announced that it was participating in the first large-scale offshore wind project in the United States, the Vineyard Wind 1 located in the Atlantic.
