While only Americans and top athletes will be able to participate, the legendary New York Marathon will take place this Sunday, November 7. It will still be possible to follow the race from France, while the triple Olympic champion over 5,000 and 10,000 meters Kenenisa Bekele intends to attack the race record held by Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai (2:05 ‘5’ ‘) and hopes to “make history”.
On the women’s side, 5 athletes who will be on the starting line have a record below the best time of the New York event (2 h 22 min 38 s by Joyciline Jepkosgei): the Kenyans Peres Jepchirchir and Nancy Kiprop, the Ethiopians Ruti Aga and Ababel Yeshaneh as well as the Namibian Helalia Johannes. Which should make way for a nice show.
There will also be competition for wheelchair racing with a duel between 2018 and 2019 winner Daniel Romanchuk and three-time winner (2013, 2016 and 2017) Marcel Hug. Among the women, we will especially note the participations of Manuela Schär, victorious over the last 3 editions, and the American Tatyana McFadden, who has already won 5 times in New York.
