He wants greater openness among surgeons about errors and complications. But what happens to doctors who make repeated mistakes?

– I made a mistake during the operation. We had to press the “red button”. At the surgeons’ big autumn meeting, the leader of the Norwegian Surgical Association, John Christian Glent, told about when things went wrong during a bowel operation.

John Christian Glent is a surgeon at Rikshospitalet and leader of the Norwegian Surgical Association. “Only by talking about mistakes we make can we learn,” he says.

Recently, 1,200 surgeons from all over the country met at an autumn meeting in Oslo. One of the topics addressed was complications in the surgery.

– I chose to tell openly about a complication I had experienced myself. Usually it is not something surgeons like to talk about, says leader of the Norwegian Surgical Association, John Christian Glent.
