“Apparently dropped out of the complex” Dead Russian diplomat found at Russian embassy in Berlin

A man found by police without signs of life on the sidewalk on October 19 apparently dropped out of the embassy complex, Spiegel reported.

A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said the ministry was aware of the case, but did not provide further details.

SPIEGEL quoted the Russian embassy as calling the incident a tragic accident. The ministry also stated that it would not comment on the case for ethical reasons.

SPIEGEL reported that the deceased is a 35-year-old second secretary of the embassy. However, the magazine said that the German authorities believe that he also worked for the Russian Federal Security Service (FDD).

They believe the deceased is also linked to a high-ranking official in the second directorate of the FDD, a unit that, according to Western secret services, was involved in the killing of a Georgian citizen in central Berlin in 2019.

Zelimhan Hangoshvili, a 40-year-old Georgian citizen, was shot on August 23, 2018, in Little Tirtharten Park in Berlin.

Vadim Krasikov, a 55-year-old Russian citizen also known as Vadim Sokolov, has been called to murder in court. According to the German prosecutor’s office, the murder was ordered by Moscow.
