FIRST NOTE
At the end of the cycle “Fertilize more and better”, organized by Profértil and thanks to the management of Pool of Journalists for Green Supplement of DIARIO DE CUYO; From the largest fertilizer company in the country, the lawyer Ricardo Martínez Peck referred to the strong incidence of an adequate calibration of the fertilizers in the result obtained with the applied nutrients. Mirta Toribio -Research and Development Coordinator of Profértil- indicated at the opening: “The correct application of fertilizers is one of the fundamental requirements when we talk about Best Management Practices, known as the 4Rs, for crop nutrition. We must perform the calibration of the fertilizer, ensuring the correct dose and the highest efficiency in the use of nutrients. “
For his part, Martínez Peck began by stating: “The application of solid fertilizers in full coverage is the most widespread fertilization practice used in Argentina.”
The agricultural machinery specialist highlighted the availability and variety of application equipment and its characteristics, three-point, trailed and automotive models: “Regardless of their capacity or transport system, they can be divided into two well differentiated application systems, the Saucers and pneumatic bar fertilizers. Each one has advantages and disadvantages. Saucers, and especially those of the gravimetric type, will depend to a greater extent on the following aspects and according to the fertilizer used:
- Apparent density of the fertilizer
- Fertilizer granulometry
- Fertilizer mechanical resistance
- Fertilizer hygroscopicity degree
- Dependent on application conditions
- Wind
- RH
- In gravimetric fertilizers, the stability of the speed of advance of the equipment “.
Calibration trays
“If the fertilizer to be used is of stable granulometry and known density, the parameters to determine the true effective work width may have been calculated by the manufacturer of the fertilizer and provide the necessary calibration parameters to avoid uneven applications”, adding: “Now, if the physical properties of the fertilizer are highly variable, it will be essential to use the calibration trays to be able to identify the best distribution pattern for that product.”
Martínez Peck affirmed: “This is what explains why it is so frequent to see the batches of recently fertilized crops with stripes of different degrees of coloration. They range from bluish green (excess product) to yellowish green (lack of product). It is very It is common to find the pan equipment without the tray kit, essential to make the adjustments that ensure a uniform application of the granules “.
