China launches Earth science satellite into space

China has successfully launched an earth science satellite called Guangmu into orbit. It is the world’s first scientific satellite dedicated exclusively to serving the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The launch took place from the Taiyuan cosmodrome in the northern province of Shanxi at 10:19 local time (04:19 Kiev time).

The satellite was launched using the Changzheng-6 (Long March 6) launch vehicle and has already entered its intended orbit.

Using the Guangmu satellite, it will be possible to determine in detail the volumes of energy consumption in areas of high human activity, the structure of settlements and the coastal environment to provide information support for indicators of sustainable development that characterize the interaction between humans and nature.
