Offenbach: Evening tour on November 11th in the German Leather Museum

The German Leather Museum is open on Thursday, November 11th, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and offers an evening tour of the current exhibition STEP BY STEP: Schuh.Design im Wandel at 6.30 p.m. In the tour entitled “Status, Power and Identity”, curator Leonie Wiegand MA reports on how and why shoes have become status symbols over time.

Among other things, visitors encounter gin-lien shoes, also called lotus shoes. For thousands of years they clothed the lotus feet that are widespread in China. For this, girls, with the exception of the big toe, were tied the toes under the feet in order to deform them as they grew and to achieve a tiny foot. Petite feet were considered a feminine beauty feature, which is still there today in many countries.

Since the number of participants is limited, the DLM asks you to register by phone on 069 829798-0 or by email to [email protected]. Participation in the tour including admission costs 8 euros per person. A negative daily rapid test, alternatively proof of vaccination or convalescence in connection with a valid identification document is required.
