West Ham boss David Moyes believes Genk’s draw was a fair result in the 1,000th game as coach

He said Benrahma scored both goals for the Hammers in a 2-2 draw on the road.

West Ham drew 2-2 against Genk in their Europa League clash after two goals from Said Benrahma put them in control.

But the unfortunate substitute Soucek inadvertently headed a cross in the last minute inside the near post to leave the Hammers with just one point.

However, Moyes was pleased to see his team, which were below par in the first half, still clearly on top of Group H after three wins and a draw, and destined for the knockout stages.

“I think on reflection, a draw is the correct result,” Moyes said. “Genk started better and we needed our goalkeeper to make good saves.

“In the end we got two goals and it seemed that it would be enough but for the own goal. Much credit to Genk.

“I tweaked things slightly and changed it again after 20 minutes and after that some of our football was really good, we just couldn’t find the end.

“I see that we have qualified, and the other part is that we are still new to this. We are trying to keep the players fresh for the Premier League, so at some point it was going to get complicated. And Genk did it bumpy. ”

West Ham fell behind after just four minutes of the first goal they had conceded in the competition.

They were caught asleep by a ball from behind, which Joseph Paintsil ran and shot through Alphonse Areola, who reached into the shot but couldn’t help himself.

The Hammers leveled in the hour when Manuel Lanzini sent Vladimir Coufal superimposed on the right and his Benrahma swept the setback.

With 10 minutes to go, Benrahma scored a fine solo goal, shoving the ball to one side of defender Mujaid Sadick and bouncing it the other before hitting the nearest post.

“I thought Said played well tonight, he did a lot of good things that in the last few games he wasn’t so sure, and getting a couple of goals will help him, very well,” added Moyes.

But Benrahma was not going to be the winner of the match as, with three minutes to go, Soucek inadvertently glared a cross from Genk substitute Angelo Preciado on Areola to deny Moyes’ victory on their big night.

In his milestone match, Moyes said, “I really haven’t gotten it in yet. As a coach, you’re only thinking about the last minute, so I’ll probably reflect on that later.

“But it’s pretty hard to believe that I got there and it’s a moment that I always remember, an away game in Europe. And the game will always be remembered when Tomas Soucek scored an own goal ”.
