American hockey player Jack Eichel is leaving the NHL club Buffalo Sabers after six years. “Šable” replaced him to the Vegas Golden Knights team on Thursday.
The clubs did not disclose details of the transaction, but TSN television reported on its website that the “knights” for the 25-year center sacrificed the attackers Alex Tuch, the promising Peyton Krebs, the election in the 1st round of next year’s draft and the right to choose in the 3rd round of the draft in 2023. In addition to Eichel, the Sabers also sent their election to Vegas in the 3rd round of the 2023 draft.
The exchange ended a several-month saga about Eichel’s future. Sabers have long had a dispute with the star attacker over how to treat his neck injury. Eichel demanded that his problems be solved by a unique operation in which they would replace his intervertebral disc.
Buffalo preferred the more traditional fusion method. According to Sabers, the operation proposed by Eichel has never taken place on an NHL player. The American, meanwhile, was stripped of his captain.
Eichel expressed his desire to leave Buffalo, but it was not easy to find an applicant who would offer the required high value and at the same time was willing to meet the player’s requirements regarding the operation. He was eventually caught by the Golden Knights, who take away from Buffalo and the players a contract valid until 2026, with an average annual earnings of $ 10 million.
Vegas thus went to risk, or to the city of sin to gamble. According to the available information, Eichel should undergo surgery soon and the treatment period is estimated at four months in the ideal scenario. So soon they will not see their star on the ice and it is questionable what condition Eichel will be in after an unconventional operation.
According to TSN, the elite forward, who also represented the USA at the 2019 World Championships in Košice and Bratislava, should undergo the operation soon and return to the ice in about four months. Last season he managed to play only 21 matches, in which he collected two goals and 16 assists.
He played a total of 375 doubles in the basic part, in which he scored 139 goals and added 216 assists. He never advanced to the playoffs with Buffalo, so he is still waiting for his first game in the NHL knockout.
