Streaming service Netflix developed the platform by launching Netflix Games for Android devices globally, Wednesday (3/11) US time.
Starting November 3, Netflix subscribers can play a selection of games on the Netflix mobile app. However, this feature is only available to users on Android devices.
It said it was still in the development stage for Netflix Game on iOS devices. Netflix has yet to reveal a specific release date.
There are five games to choose from at launch, including:
- Stranger Things: 1984;
- Stranger Things 3: The Game;
- Shooting Hoops;
- Teeter Up; and
- Card Blast.
In a blog post announcing the global launch, Netflix explains that Netflix Games is part of a Netflix subscription, no ads, no additional fees, and no in-app purchases.
It says Android users will find games to download in a special section of the app.
Netflix explains the games are available in many of the languages offered on the service.
If the language choice does not include the language you want to use, the user can choose the default. Automatically the language selection becomes English.
Netflix explains that users can play games on multiple mobile devices under the same account. There are device limits, but Netflix doesn’t explicitly state in detail how much the limits are.
If the user activates a pin to prevent children’s access, the same pin can be used to access Netflix Games.
Quoted Tech Radar, this is the first step for Netflix to roll out gaming features on Android devices. A few months ago Netflix did a trial for its users in Poland.
Netflix was then testing Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3 on Android in apps before rolling out trials to users in Italy and Spain.
Quoted GSM Arena, there are many streaming services competing against Netflix, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV Plus, and Disney Plus.
All streaming services are competing to present TV shows and movies, so that users continue to subscribe.
Competition in the world of visual streaming services is fairly tight. Inevitably, Netflix is looking for ways to add value to its subscribers and give them more reasons to keep using the app.
However, this step is the beginning of product expansion. His party is still speculating whether the Netflix Game service can attract the attention of users, as Netflix hopes.
