Jumbo Supermarkets and Jan Linders Supermarkets have reached an agreement on the mutual sale of several store locations, including in our region.
On Tuesday, the parties signed the proposed transactions. Jumbo takes over supermarkets from Jan Linders in Weert (Molenakkerplein) and Nederweert (Mayor Hobusstraat).
The Jan Linders supermarket in Weert will be converted to the Jumbo formula at the beginning of 2022. New construction is planned for the current Jan Linders supermarket in Nederweert, which will open its doors under the Jumbo flag in mid-2022. The agreements are subject to approval by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). Affected parties do not disclose financial details about the transactions.
Relocation of employees
All employees involved were informed about the plans yesterday and today. Jumbo takes over the employees of the Jan Linders supermarket in Weert. Employees of the supermarket in Nederweert will be relocated to other Jan Linders branches in the area.
Strengthening store network
Ton van Veen, CFO Jumbo Supermarkets: “We always strive to further strengthen our store network, which is why we continuously look for the optimal spread of our locations. This intended ‘bargain purchase’ with Jan Linders is beneficial for both parties. It is a great prospect for Jumbo to be able to continue to offer its customers the best message in Weert and Nederweert.”
The Jan Linders supermarket on Onzelievevrouwestraat in Weert will remain in the hands of Jan Linders. Jan Linders takes over Jumbo stores in Vlijmen (Oliemaat) and Drunen (Grotestraat) in Brabant, as well as in Wanssum (Burgemeester de Weichshavenstraat) in North Limburg.
Exploitation
Independent Jumbo entrepreneur Roel Heerschap is responsible for the operation of the new stores in Weert (Molenakkerplein) and Nederweert (Mayor Hobusstraat).
