As of writing this, the prospect of United winning something looks nothing more than a dream, certainly if they maintain their current form. One win in their last four Premier League games isn’t going to win them a title. With their current form, Man United looks as though they would struggle to make it even in the Europa League. And that’s one concern that would explode ten-fold, especially if they fail to beat Tottenham this Saturday. Spurs have looked anything but convincing this season. They are one point and one place better than their rivals.
Should Spurs, by any chance, come out on top this weekend, it might mark the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as manager at United, or it might not. But whatever happens, whoever will be occupying The Red Devils’ managerial hot-seat in the coming weeks or months will have a mountain to climb.
The thought of falling short of their rivals or missing out in their race for Europe and other competitions is a frightening reality, to say the least. And we can safely say that Ronaldo wasn’t brought back for that. Even while under such enormous pressure, Solskjaer insists he won’t resign as United’s manager. But even he cannot still say he has the unanimous backing from the club’s management after the apocalyptic defeat by Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lost three of United’s last four league matches and drew in one. They have also conceded 15 goals in this Premier League. He has presided over United’s five defeats in their last nine games across all competitions. According to The Guardian, United players like their manager but feel he may not be the right man to take the team to the top, tactically speaking. And the defeat to Liverpool only seemed to crystalize their lack of belief in him.
With esteemed coaches, the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Conte, both out of work, the pressure on Solskjaer is continuing to mount, but he insists he believes in himself and the team.
According to Solskjaer, the team has come too far as a group to give up now. And he is right. Players will be low, and there will be lots of doubt. They can’t feel any worse than they are now. But you never know what the future holds. The tables might just turn in Man United’s favor.
