Heat pump business doubled in pandemic. Why Romanians want to replace older heating equipment

According to them, as governments become proactive in terms of long-term sustainability and start implementing strategies to achieve carbon neutrality, heat pumps are gaining a growing share of the heating market. including locally.

“The heat pump is a heating equipment suitable for new installations and replacements, it can also be connected to underfloor heating systems, fan coils or radiators, being a solution four times more efficient than traditional alternatives.

It can also be installed with an integrated domestic hot water system or connected to an external boiler, so that hot water is always available to the consumer. The heat pump is also an optimal air conditioning solution for areas where there is no access to gas and can collect up to 75% of the energy used from the air and the rest from the electricity, ”explains the quoted source.

Moreover, because the outside air or the ground is always a source of energy, a high-performance heat pump can heat efficiently even in the coldest conditions, the specialists mention.

“There is a preconception that heat pumps provide only heat, their usefulness being limited to creating a pleasant environment in the house during the cold season.

In reality, however, the installation replaces several air conditioning solutions, because it provides heating in winter, coolness in summer and domestic hot water all year round. (…)

Maybe, at first sight, the initial investment in a plant put into operation by the heat pump is a considerable one, but this money will be saved in a short time due to the reduced monthly electricity bills “, says Daniel Vasile, Managing Director Daikin Romania.

The heat pump can replace both a gas-fired boiler and a wood-fired boiler

According to the quoted source, beyond the context of the long-term strategic vision adopted by the European Commission on climate impact, in Romania an important stimulus for increasing demand for heat pumps is the replacement of wood-fired power plants which, in addition to being widespread , generates a high discomfort to the users as it requires manual feeding, most of the times permanent.

“The heat pump can successfully replace both a gas-fired boiler and a wood-fired boiler. Moreover, those who renovate their home and want to replace the old thermal power plant can also keep the existing radiators if they wish, ”Daikin specialists say.

According to them, what differentiates a heat pump from a thermal power plant is the way heat is generated, not the way it is distributed.

Thus, instead of burning fuel to generate heat, a heat pump uses a process of evaporating and condensing the refrigerant.

“Strictly technical, the heat pump is an equipment that extracts the available energy from the ground or air, adjusts it and releases it elsewhere, at the desired or necessary temperature to produce heat or domestic hot water,” explains the quoted source.

Daikin representatives also point out that the main criterion in choosing the right heating system depends on the type of home and the existing heating system.

“Installing, upgrading or replacing complex HVAC-R installations with heat pump systems can also be a cost-cutting measure for many homeowners in the current economic context.

Some countries, such as Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and France, are already offering subsidies to help developers and business owners turn their buildings into greener and more compliant spaces, ”Daikin said.

According to the representatives of Trust Expert, a company specialized in HVAC solutions, the increase in the price of gas and electricity increased the business with heat pumps by 30%, compared to the same period last year.

“Sales at the heat pumps have started to grow steadily, since seven years ago, by about 20% per year. In 2021, we record the most important growth, influenced by several factors. ”, Transmits the quoted source.

Daikin Romania registered a doubling of heat pump sales in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021 compared to the previous year, and the upward trend of sales continues this year as well.
