Yesterday, on November 2, the VP received information that a road traffic accident had occurred in Priekule, Liepājas Street – the yard was driven out and the clothes dryer support was lowered. VP Kurzeme region administration officials arrived at the scene and found out what happened, finding out the culprit car and its 20-year-old driver.
It was found out that in the evening of the previous day, on November 1, around 19.00, the young man was driving an Audi car in Priekule in the courtyards of Liepājas Street, where he did not choose a safe speed and interval, as a result of which he caused an accident drying equipment, damaging it. There are no people injured in the accident.
After the accident, the young man left the scene of the accident without notifying the State Police in accordance with the law. It has been established that the young man bought this car only on October 31, but he has not acquired the right to drive a vehicle, as well as the vehicle has not been compulsorily insured against civil liability. Also, during the inspection of the vehicle, it was found that the wheel on the right side of the rear axle has a damaged tire tread, which endangers traffic safety – tire cord tears.
According to the Road Traffic Law, a driver is prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages after a road traffic accident until the state of intoxication has been established. Law enforcement officers conducted an alcohol test on the young man’s breath and found that he was under the influence of 1.07 per cent. The young man claims to have used alcohol after the accident to calm down, but eyewitnesses told law enforcement that the vehicle was seen drifting in the last few days and that its driver may have been under the influence of alcohol.
Officials of the Traffic Monitoring Company of the VP Kurzeme Region have initiated six administrative proceedings regarding a road traffic accident, namely, non-observance of a safe distance and interval, leaving the accident site, driving a vehicle without a driving license, using a vehicle in road traffic the owner’s compulsory civil liability insurance has not been taken out and who has tire damage that endangers traffic safety and for the use of alcoholic beverages after a traffic accident. For all violations, the total fine is 3,000 euros and the young person is prohibited from acquiring rights for another five years.
