With the limited improvements of the dock and playing in dock mode, I have few problems even after a month. Still, this new model doesn’t have the Nintendo DS Lite effect I was kind of hoping for. When I traded in my Nintendo DS for the new Lite model in 2006, it felt like going from a prototype to a high-design product that wouldn’t have looked out of place on the shelves of the then Apple Store. While the OLED screen really takes the handheld gaming experience to the next level, the changes are too small.
That’s not to say that much better thought has gone into this design. Especially when you look at the kickstand that is no longer a plastic piece, you get the idea that a lot of attention has been paid to this new version. So if you don’t have a Switch yet or if you need a new one because the battery keeps running out, it is definitely worth the extra cost of 50 euros. Although in the latter case it is probably cheaper to replace the battery yourself.
After the announcement of the Nintendo Switch OLED, Nintendo received a major blow to the stock market, because in combination with a decrease in growth, the analysts expect this model to sell less well. Whether that is the case, we’ll have to wait and see. For the time being, the new console is in any case sold out and I think that – just like me – few people will put this new model on Marktplaats. Once you get used to the nicer screen, you really never want to go back.
