NASA still working on fixing Hubble Space Telescope. The observation instruments of this space observatory are not working so everything is dark.
On October 25, the Hubble Telescope went into safe mode. Then on Monday (1/11) NASA provided additional details about the problem with Hubble and their plans to be able to return the observatory to normal operation.
“NASA continue to investigate why the instrument in Hubble Space Telescope recently went into safe mode configuration suspending science research operations. The instrument is ‘healthy’ and will remain in safe mode while the mission team continues its investigations,” NASA said Space.com.
According to the latest statement, the instrument went offline at 2:38 a.m. EDT (0638 GMT) on October 25. But NASA also noted something unprecedented, namely that a similar problem occurred two days earlier but could be resolved quickly.
The Hubble science instrument issued an error code at 01:46 EDT October 23, indicating the loss of certain sync messages. These messages provide information about the time the instrument took to properly respond to data requests and commands. The mission team reset the instrument, then resumed science operations the next morning. ,” said NASA.
However when a similar issue recurs, the error code indicates lost sync message. The instrument automatically follows programming by putting itself into safe mode.
According to the statement, Hubble personnel on the ground are continuing to analyze the spacecraft’s data and are also working on procedures that will yield more data to study. The work will take at least a week to complete.
This is not the first time Hubble having a problem. Launched in April 1990, this telescope is indeed quite old. The problem this time seems to be less severe than the previous crash that temporarily shut Hubble down for more than a month and required the team to switch Hubble to its spare hardware.
