Ankara’s decision is due to the lack of energy resources against the background of demand, which will reach a record 60 billion cubic meters

Turkey does not receive 25 million cubic meters of Russian gas per day due to disagreements over the payment of the amount to Gazprom under the arbitration award.

The Turkish authorities increased the regulated tariff for fuel sold by the operator of the BOTAS transmission system to gas power plants by 47%. The analytical company reported about it the day before. ICIS.

It is indicated that the tariff for November is currently 4 thousand Turkish lira per thousand cubic meters (33.30 euros per megawatt-hour or 405 dollars per thousand cubic meters). However, this is still 30 euros per megawatt-hour lower than similar prices in European hubs.

Ankara’s decision is due to a shortage of energy resources amid growing demand, which will reach a record 60 billion cubic meters in 2021.

Four market sources said Turkey is experiencing a 25 million cubic meter daily shortfall in Russian gas supplies due to ongoing disagreements over Gazprom’s payment of the arbitration award.

BOTAS is already in talks with large industrial enterprises and power plants to reduce consumption in case of further growth in demand. Consumption is expected to rise in colder months.

Even if BOTAS is able to provide more liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies through its northern terminals, the company may still need Russian pipeline gas to maintain pressure on the system in the high-demand Istanbul area.

As a reminder, from November 1, the Russian Gazprom has cut gas transit to the EU through Ukraine another third – up to 57 million cubic meters. At the same time, the monopolist pays for the transit capacity of 109 million cubic meters. m. With such volumes of transportation, Gazprom will not supply to the EU by the end of May about 5 billion cubic meters.
