Andy Murray misses 7 match points against lucky loser in Paris | Tennis

Murray, who dropped to number 144 on the ATP ranking after hip surgery, is trying to make his way back up. But things are not going smoothly: the Scot has won 13 times this season and lost 13 times.

In Paris, the tournament he had won in 2016, Murray struggled mainly with his serve. With 9 double errors, 49% on his first serve and 36 unforced errors, he quickly faced the German lucky loser Dominik Köpfer against 6-4 and 5-3.

Murray did manage to get a third set out of the fire, but couldn’t finish it. Köpfer saved 2 match balls to force a tiebreak and survived another 5 match points. After 3 hours Murray had to bow his head.

“I didn’t deserve to win the game. I didn’t play well enough to win,” Murray said. “I had plenty of chances at the end, but my game wasn’t good enough.”
