Controversial, AS Roma vs AC Milan referee dismissed for two matches

The Rossoneri’s victory over Roma was embellished with bad news about the performance of referee Maresca.

Referee Fabio Maresca will reportedly be dismissed for at least two games after his controversial performance in the dual between AS Roma and AC Milan on Monday (01/11) early morning WIB.

SportMediaset reports the Italian Referees Association (AIA) was unhappy with Maresca’s performance in the big game which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Jose Mourinho’s men at the Stadio Olimpico.

Italian newspapers highlighted the mistakes of match officials, especially for the penalty he did not give Roma, therefore the 40-year-old referee’s capabilities are now being questioned.

Many controversial decisions occurred in a match which was also marked by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 400th domestic league goal of his career.

Ibrahimovic was brought down by Roger Ibanez in the second half and Milan doubled their lead with a Franck Kessie penalty before Stephan El Shaarawy pulled the trigger just before the end.

Mourinho did not even want to comment on the performance of the referee after the match for fear of being subject to additional sanctions.

VAR was also criticized, because they intervened at the wrong time. While the resulting 10 yellow cards were also questioned, including a second for Theo Hernandez, were part of the inconclusive evaluation.

There has been no official decision from the AIA so far on Maresca’s fate, but the referee is believed to be off duty for at least two games.
