Couple can’t hide disappointment in Buy Without Watching

Lynn and Martijn live together in a 1950s apartment in Apeldoorn. The two bought the apartment about four years ago, but that was actually mainly at the initiative of Lynn. Martijn didn’t like it that way, but it was Lynn who finally managed to push her way through. They have now outgrown the apartment and are ready for a larger home.

The couple has a long list of requirements. They only want to live in specific neighborhoods in Apeldoorn, in a 1930s house (detached or semi-detached), with at least three bedrooms and a beautiful garden. And all that for 4 tons. Bob doesn’t trust it right away and calls the couple’s wishes ‘totally unrealistic’. “Not for their age and not for their budget,” said Bob.

Alex tries with good courage to find a suitable home, but soon comes to the same conclusion as Bob: with the wishes the two have, it simply won’t work. He therefore gives them an ultimatum. “Either we split up now or we’re going to come up with a new plan,” he suggests. After a night’s sleep, Lynn and Martijn decide to adjust their wish list. They let go of the type of home and the specific neighborhoods they had in mind. And not without success, because it doesn’t take long before Alex buys a beautiful detached house.

A lot still needs to be done, but given that they are under budget, there is still quite a bit of money left for renovation and the necessary adjustments. Unfortunately, Lynn and Martijn seem less fond of the house. When they are allowed to view the house, they lose their courage. Martijn Krabbé also has to swallow hard when he sees the house on the inside. The couple notes that the house is ‘just a little bigger’ than where they are now and that a lot needs to be done. The requirement of at least three bedrooms also does not seem feasible. “I don’t feel positive inside at all,” Lynn stammers. “No I don’t like it”. Martijn is also not to speak. “We really would never have gone here to see it.”

And things don’t seem to be getting much better, because shortly after the couple tour the house, Alex gets some bad news. He was already aware that there was asbestos in the house, but how much was still unclear. After an investigation, however, it appears that at least 10,000 euros extra is needed to remove the asbestos and that money is simply not available. Bob must therefore conclude that there is a need to give in on another level. “That will be either no kitchen or no bathroom or no dormer.”

Fortunately, the apartment of Lynn and Martijn was sold around the same period with a profit, which means that some extra money has become available after all. This allows the asbestos to be removed, a new kitchen, a new bathroom and a mega dormer can be built. When Martijn and Lynn are shown their new home at the end of the episode, they can’t believe their eyes. Due to the dormer window, a lot of space has been added, so that the house still meets all their requirements. The two cannot believe their luck.

The team of Buy without Looking often has a hard time dealing with all those demanding candidates, Bob and Roos say:
