The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received 7,744 reports of positive corona tests between Sunday morning and Monday morning. For a Monday, that’s the highest number since July 19. As a result, the average rises for the 32nd day in a row.
The daily figure is slightly lower than in recent days, but that is usual for Mondays. This is because fewer people go to a GGD test street on weekends to be tested. On weekends, there are access tests of people who want to go to a restaurant, café, theater or cinema, but those tests do not reveal many infections. During the week, the number of GGD tests increases and then the number of positive tests also increases.
Amsterdam counted 211 positive tests, 196 cases came to light in The Hague and the virus was found in 157 inhabitants in Rotterdam. This is followed by Breda (129), Sittard-Geleen (115) and Venlo (114). In four municipalities – Schiermonnikoog, Vlieland, Laren and Westvoorne – there was not a single positive test.
In the past seven days, RIVM registered 52,006 positive tests. For the first time since July 24, that weekly total exceeds 50,000. On average, there were 7,429 positive tests per day in the past week.
The number of deaths remains relatively high. RIVM was informed last day that twelve people have died as a result of their corona infection. It concerns two people from the municipality of Neder-Betuwe and also residents of Venlo, Deventer, Ermelo, Capelle aan den IJssel, Boxmeer, Tiel, Ridderkerk, Raalte, Tubbergen, and someone from the Amsterdam region.
For a Monday, the 12 deaths are the highest number since May 10. There are generally fewer reports of deaths on Mondays. When corona patients die during the weekend, this is often processed and registered in the course of Monday. Those deaths can then be seen in the RIVM figures for Tuesday.
In the past seven days, RIVM received 103 reports of deaths. For the first time since May 17, the weekly total exceeds 100.
Hospitals
The number of corona patients in Dutch hospitals has risen to the highest level since June 1. The National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) reported Monday that a total of 1,212 people are now being treated for Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. That is 90 more than Sunday. Such a large increase has not occurred since the end of April.
There are now 976 corona patients in the nursing wards, 74 more than on Sunday. In intensive care units, the number of corona cases increased by 16 to 236.
In the past 24 hours, 123 new corona patients were brought into the nursing wards. 18 new patients were admitted to the ICUs.
The hospital organization points out that the Covid occupation in hospitals has “risen considerably” last week, especially in the nursing wards. “The same applies to the influx of corona patients. There are no signs that the increase in Covid occupation is decreasing,” the LCPS said in a statement.
In the past two weeks, the LCPS has again started to spread patients between the regions to relieve the pressure on care. Last 24 hours, 3 corona patients had to be transferred to hospitals in other parts of the country.
