The past month was the wettest October since 1998 and the second wettest October in the current reference period since 1991. This was reported by the RMI on Monday.

In Uccle last month 121.1 millimeters of rain fell on 19 days, while in a normal month of October 67.8 millimeters falls on 16.1 days. In October 1998, 128.7 millimeters of precipitation fell.
Most precipitation fell at the beginning and end of the month. In Uccle the most rain fell on 3 October (29.8 mm), in the rest of the country the largest rainy day was 2 October. 40.2 mm of rain fell in Vaudignies in Hainaut.
The average wind speed in Uccle was normal: 3.8 meters per second compared to 3.5 meters per second in a normal month of October. Wind gusts of at least 100 kilometers per hour (28 meters per second) were measured in Belgium only on 21 October.
No frost (in Uccle)
It is also striking that the lowest absolute maximum temperature for an October month since 2003 was recorded in Uccle. Temperatures fluctuated between 4.2 degrees (October 21) and 18.9 degrees (October 19). In 2003 the temperature in Uccle did not exceed 18.3 degrees.
The average temperature in Uccle was just above the normal value: 11.5 degrees, compared to 11.3 degrees normal. There was not a single frost day with temperatures lower than 0 degrees and not a single spring day (+20 degrees).
In all of Belgium, the highest temperature was measured on October 19, when it became 21.5 degrees in Poperinge. The frost also made its appearance in our country: on October 25 in Sankt-Vith (Liège) and on October 26 and Givry (Hainaut) the temperature dropped to -2.4 degrees.
