Elon Musk Willing to Donate $6 Billion If “UN Can…

Tesla CEO Elon Musk wants to sell $6 billion (about 5.2 billion euros) in Tesla shares and donate it to the World Food Program. At least, only if it can be shown that he can eliminate hunger in this way.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is the richest man in the world with an estimated wealth of $222.1 billion. Then Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ($190.8 billion) and Frenchman Bernard Arnault of the luxury group LVMH ($155.6 billion). Reason for David Beasley, the director of the World Food Program (WFP), to tell the American news channel CNN that a small group of ultra-rich can help eradicate famine by “donating a fraction of their wealth”. According to Beasley, it would take $6 billion to help 42 million people who could starve to death. He then went on to name Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.

Musk responded to Beasley’s statements via Twitter. “If the UN can say here how exactly $6 billion can help eradicate hunger, I will immediately sell Tesla stock and do it,” he wrote. Although he immediately set a condition: “The public must then know exactly how the money is being spent.”

The WFP director, in turn, responded to Musk again. “CNN’s piece was inaccurate,” Beasley tweeted. “Six billion dollars won’t end global famine, but it could prevent geopolitical instability and mass migration, and save 42 million people on the brink of starvation. An unprecedented crisis caused by corona, conflict and the climate crisis.”

Beasley said he would like to talk to Musk. It is not yet clear whether the Tesla CEO will respond to Beasley’s question.
