Great news: Djokovic will go to the courts later this year

World number one Novak Djokovic, who has not played for a month and a half since losing in the US Open final, will return to the ATP circuit at the Masters tournament in Paris next week. The 34-year-old Serbian tennis player will perform atypically in doubles in preparation for the Davis Cup final tournament in the Bercy hall.

Djokovic will appear on the courts for the first time since September 12, when he lost the US Open final to Russian Daniil Medvedev and lost the chance to win a calendar Grand Slam and a record 21st victory in the Big Four tournaments. In Paris, he will attack the sixth triumph in singles and will appear in the doubles alongside compatriot Filip Krajinovič.

“He said he would play the Davis Cup final, so he entered the doubles here. It’s not very common, so we’re happy. You don’t often see the world number one play doubles at Masters tournaments,” said tournament director Guy Forget.

Djokovic will have the most free player in the first round, after which the winner of the duel between the Italian Fabio Fogni and the Hungarian Márton Fucsovics awaits him. The final Davis Cup tournament will be played at the turn of November and December.
