Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Qatar’s leader, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamid Al-Thani, takes first place on the list of the World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims for 2022. The man who was born on June 3, 1980 has managed to rise from 11th position last year.
He succeeded in overtaking the position of the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud. In fact, he far surpassed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who previously ranked first.
Reported from the official website The Muslim 500, Monday (1/11/2021), Sheikh Tamim’s leadership in Qatar made this country position itself as a regional peace broker in the Gulf countries. He has a big role in the Taliban in Afghanistan and Iran.
“Qatar plays an important role in international talks with the Taliban government and hopes to broker a deal around Iran’s nuclear program. It has adopted a strong position of proactive engagement through dialogue with its regional neighbours,” the site reads.
While regarding the response to the corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic, Sheikh Tamim is also considered to have taken decisive and fast actions, including the lockdown.lockdown), school closures, and travel restrictions. Disinfecting procedures are also carried out in line with the increase in health services. About 80% of Qatar’s population has also been vaccinated.
The list of the World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims for 2022 is published by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center (RISSC). It is an independent research institute affiliated with the Royal Aal Al Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, headquartered in Amman, Jordan.
RISSC formulates that influential Muslims are Muslims who have an impact on the Muslim world. However, it should be noted that the impact can be positive or negative, depending on the point of view used.
