Corona: Numbers in the district continue to rise

On this Monday after the autumn break, school life begins again for the pupils – with regular tests and, in the first week, a mask requirement. Also at the Augustum-Annen-Gymnasium, which had to be temporarily closed before the autumn holidays due to an accumulation of corona cases.

However, some students start their second vaccination appointment on this Monday: Anyone who received the first Biontech vaccination at the vocational school center at the beginning of October will now have the second on this Monday.

Despite the autumn holidays and although quick tests are now chargeable, the corona pandemic is more advanced in the Görlitz district. On Saturday the Robert Koch Institute calculated an incidence of 318 for the district of Görlitz, on Sunday it was therefore 327, the district already assumed 351 on Friday. Since the start of the autumn vacation on October 16, more than 1,400 new infections have been found in the Görlitz district, the incidence tripled, and the number of people who were acutely infected rose from 235 people 279, on Friday it was 206 according to the district. There are 186 adults and 20 children.

According to the district, which did not publish any figures over the weekend, there were 58 corona patients in the clinics in the Görlitz district on Friday, four of whom had to be treated in intensive care. That is about the level at the end of October 2020, before the coronavirus then raged in old people’s homes and among the particularly endangered age groups and caused the second wave in the Görlitz district to be so fatal. Nationwide, the RKI explained in its weekly report on Thursday, the number of outbreaks in old people’s and nursing homes increased significantly compared to the previous week.

At the same time, the RKI writes in the report: “With the current 7-day incidence, there is an increasing likelihood of infectious contacts. It is therefore urgently recommended to accept the vaccination offer.”
