One of the trains collided with an ‘object’ in the Fisherton Tunnel. The rear of the train derailed and broke part of the track signals, after which another train crashed on top of the other. That second train also derailed and a driver became trapped in the cab. The carriages of the first train overturned as a result of the second collision and ended up on their sides in the tunnel.

British railway police say there were no fatalities in the clashes. However, a number of people were injured. The BBC reports twelve injuries, none of them serious so far.
