After the difficult seasons it has experienced, BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque relishes its large victory at Bourg (66-81).
The teams from the North did not succeed at JL Bourg since after Le Portel, Gravelines was the one who stepped on it. Inside Tyler Stone got the best evaluation of the match (21) and thus thumbed his nose at the Bressans who had hired him at the start of the season before firing him a few weeks later and rebounding at BCM.
This is the 5th consecutive defeat of the JL including the Eurocup.
“JD Jackson (Gravelines coach):“ For us, apart from two ridiculous, really ridiculous minutes at the start of the second half, we did 38 minutes of very good work. We needed a benchmark victory. Of the five so-called big, the European Cup teams, we have already played four. Each time it was very tight, we deserved it, but we didn’t do 40 minutes. There, we did 38 and that was enough for a benchmark victory. It’s important a victory like that to give yourself confidence, to believe that you can do something about the season. We were roughed up by Strasbourg last week and there we started the match well. The gap, the ease in the victory, it’s just a story of skill at the end. They missed a few three-point shots, we were realistic about the ultimate possessions, but we sought this confidence through defensive and collective investment. As Romuald (Morency) said, we didn’t leave the game plan for most of the match, which is very good. There were a few rushed shots playing the hero, but overall it’s a team game. We have a lot of talents and we were able to express ourselves. ”
Laurent Legname (Bourg coach, via La Voix de l’Ain): “We are in full doubt and we are not well. This is reality, you have to face it and look at it. It infringes on the confidence of the boys. It’s incredible the number of missed baskets, especially lay-ups. The attack does not go and behind we also forget to defend. We still allow too many bounces and we make mistakes. In 90% of cases, the systems lead to open shots but we refuse to take them or we do not fit them. I try. Every day I try to find solutions to make things better. I talk to the guys, we do individual interviews with some of them, I accompany them. At half time I told them to relax, have fun and play basketball. I don’t yell at them all the time (smile). We still lack the sense of giving of oneself and of one’s body. Unfortunately that cannot be learned. It is something that we have in us or that we do not have. I will continue to fight until the end. Tuesday, we’ll just have to have fun and play basketball.“
