Panthers’ winning streak could be threatened in Boston
The Panthers (8-0-0) will look to become the fourth team in history to start a season with at least nine straight wins as they face the Boston Bruins at TD Garden (7 p.m. ET; TVAS, NESN , BSFL, ESPN +, NHL LIVE). The 2015-16 Montreal Canadiens are the last team to show a 9-0-0 record early in the season. The 2006-07 Buffalo Sabers and the 1993-94 Toronto Maple Leafs share a record of 10 straight wins to start a season. Florida extended their winning streak to eight games by beating the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in overtime on Friday. Alexander Barkov settled the debate. The Panthers streak is still active despite the fact that coach Joel Quenneville resigned Wednesday due to his role in the Kyle Beach affair, while leading the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010. Andrew Brunette, who was Assistant coach, is now the interim head coach of the Panthers and he relished victory in his first game as a driver. The Bruins lowered their flag to Florida by 4-1 at FLA Live Arena on Wednesday and lost 3-0 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. Flames aim for sixth consecutive victory
When two of the teams of the hour face each other, we are entitled to expect sparks. Calgary returns home to host the Philadelphia Flyers (10 p.m. ET; SN360, SN1, CITY, TVAS, NBCSP +, ESPN +, NHL LIVE) after recording five straight road wins against Association teams from the east. The Flames became the third team in history to win all of their games on a trip of at least five games without ever falling behind. The Chicago Blackhawks (5-0-0) did so between Jan.31 and Feb.8, 1996, and the St. Louis Blues (5-0-0) did so from Feb.6-15, 2017. Philadelphia (4-1-1) is looking to complete a perfect trip to Western Canada after defeating the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 on Thursday and the Edmonton Oilers 5-3 on Wednesday. The attacker Claude Giroux scored one point in each of the last six games for the Flyers. The Jets in search of a perfect score in California
The Winnipeg Jets (4-2-1) will aim for a third straight win in California as they visit the San Jose Sharks (4-3-0) at the SAP Center (7 p.m. ET; NHL Network, SN360, CITY , NBCSCA, ESPN +, NHL LIVE). Winnipeg defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 on Tuesday and the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 on Thursday, in addition to being undefeated in regulation in its last five games (4-0-1). The Jets maintained this record without two of their best forwards, Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele, which were subject to the COVID-19 protocol. Wheeler has returned to skating and his presence is uncertain for the match against the Sharks. Scheifele has also started training again, but he will not be in the game in San Jose.
