Jakarta –
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) delivered his speech at the G20 Summit session that discussed global economics and health in La Nuvola, Rome, Italy. In his speech, President Jokowi invites all countries to strengthen the global health architecture.
“In order to build a world that is more resilient to pandemics and future shocks, Indonesia invites to strengthen the global health architecture,” Jokowi said in a statement from the Press, Media and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, Saturday (30/10/2021).
To make this happen, Jokowi explained that the mechanism for raising global health resources must be compiled. This includes funds, vaccines, drugs, medical devices, to health workers who are ready to be deployed at any time to help countries experiencing health crises.
“The IMF has given an example of raising global financial resources to help countries experiencing financial crises,” he added.
International financial support for health issues and climate change is considered important. At the G20 Summit in Italy, Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, and Co-Sherpa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dian Triansyah Djani.
Second, Jokowi called on all state leaders who were present at the summit to draw up protocols for global health standards related to cross-country activities, including health protocols for interstate travel.
Jokowi further assessed that the G20 must be an important part of the solution to overcome the scarcity and gap of vaccines, medicines, and essential health equipment.
Jokowi said the G20 must support production diversification and technology transfer to developing countries, eliminate trade barriers for vaccine raw materials, support the TRIPS Waiver, and continue to increase dose sharing and support the COVAX Facility.
