How is it possible that eight out of ten corona patients in the corona department of Maastricht UMC+ are vaccinated?
‘The average age in Limburg is higher than in the rest of the Netherlands. People who have been vaccinated generally develop a defense against the virus, but that is not the case for everyone. In people who are older or have underlying diseases, such as cancer, fewer antibodies are produced after vaccination. They are more prone to end up in hospital if they become infected. In addition, the group of vaccinated is much larger than the group of non-vaccinated. So that more of them are included in the corona department is logical.’
