COVID-19: a children’s Christmas show is canceled in Gaspésie

The pandemic is not completely over in Gaspésie and the impacts are still being felt for many families.

Young children, particularly affected by the virus, will be disappointed to learn of the cancellation of a Christmas show that was to take place in the Chandler area on November 5.

“It is with sadness, but without great astonishment, that we announce the cancellation of the Nicolas Noël show scheduled for November 5,” announced the team of the broadcaster Sapinart.

According to the regional director of public health, the epidemiological situation in the Rocher-Percé RCM has been worrying for a week, especially among children.

“The virus is circulating among the show’s target audience at the moment and community transmission is not yet contained,” writes Dr Yv Bonnier Viger.

A single transmission event could lead, once again, to the closure of schools and the isolation of hundreds of people, adds the doctor.

The basic rules for avoiding contagion are very difficult to follow in a performance for children, an age group that is not vaccinated.

Pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech filed an authorization request with Health Canada last week for the use of a COVID-19 vaccine in 5 to 11 year olds.

In Quebec, the Legault government has been preparing since September for the vaccination of 650,000 children aged 5 to 11.
