Doctors ask stroke patients to be taken to the hospital immediately
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PURWOKERTO — Neurologist dr. Lucky Gunarto Sp.S. MM reminds that someone affected stroke attack must be taken to the hospital immediately for medical treatment.
“If someone around us has a stroke, immediately take them to the hospital, the sooner the better,” he said during a virtual interview in Purwokerto, Friday.
Doctors who practice at RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto said if stroke sufferers get treatment in a fast time it can reduce the risk of death and disability.
“If possible, before three hours from the initial time of the attack, they have been taken to the hospital for medical treatment,” he said.
Thus, he said, if there are people around who have had a stroke, they must optimize their time, because there is no other treatment for first aid other than taking the patient to the hospital.
“As soon as there is an attack, immediately take him to the hospital to be visited immediately, do not delay, because a stroke is an emergency, later doctors and emergency room staff will know how to manage and accelerate treatment,” he said.
He said there are two groups of risk factors for stroke, the first that can be controlled or modified, the second that cannot be controlled. we are pushing are those that can be controlled or modified,” he said.
He said the risk factors that can be controlled for example are diabetes, hypertension, obesity to heart problems. “These risk factors can be modified or reduced to a minimum if you already know the risk factors,” he said.
He said people need to know the symptoms or signs of a stroke, the first attack is sudden. Then it tends to occur on one side of the body. “On the commemoration of World Stroke Day we want to remind the public to immediately take stroke sufferers to the hospital if they find signs of a stroke, weakness, numbness, impaired speech and other signs,” he said.
