Ikea Italia has announced that it will award over 7,000 workers a bonus of around 4.3 million euros for their efforts during the period of the Covid pandemic. This is over 600 per worker, regardless of the position held. The award is part of the global award of 110 million euros that Ingka Group, the holding company that controls most of the Ikea stores, will distribute in the 32 markets in which it operates with its 170,000 employees.

The motivations

We are happy – says Asunta Enrile, Country Retail Manager & Country Sustainability Officer of Ikea Italia – to be able to make this announcement today, to all the co-workers of Ikea Italia, my heartfelt thanks for what we have achieved together. Ikea Italia has overcome incredible challenges, we have shown that we can be flexible, accelerating online sales and adapting stores to operate safely and meet the demands of our customers. We could never have done all of this without it the courage, dedication and initiative of our co-workers which have contributed to realizing our ambition to make life at home for millions of Italians better, just when they needed it most.

The welfare

An economic recognition that is added to the measures implemented by the group over the past year. In a note, the company emphasizes that it has guaranteed: full salary to all employees throughout the lockdown, the possibility for co-workers to ask in advance for the accruals of thirteenth, fourteenth and severance pay (the result of a union agreement), voluntary access to digital tools for developing one’s skills, in addition to the offer of dedicated psychological support and health coverage for any expenses related to the pandemic. The one-off bonus also complements the existing reward packages offered by Ingka Group including the annual “One Ikea” bonus calculated on the performance of the company and the units.
